It's funny you should ask. I actually thought it was peculiar to us.
We couldn't just get over the thought of someone else getting that last slice. It was like all the nutrition was concentrated on that last piece.
Ideally, my eldest brother should be the one to collect the last slice and he usually did but not without grumblings from us hua younger one, and at times fightings.
I used to act cunningly then. I'd rush to meet my mum when she's sharing her and tell her in needed the last one. Most times, it was based on 'first come first get'. I would pray my brother didn't come around because if he saw the sharing was going on, he would definitely be getting the last piece.
We've grown over the the idea now though and it would look awkward to want that last piece now.
I do love to eat the crust of the loaf bread at the end just like you. I don't use to have any problem when it comes to taking the last part because I am the elder out of every children. This gives me an automatic power to select any part of love to eat.
Sometimes, my younger ones do feel sad thinking I cheated them with my status. This has sometimes made me left the crust part of the loaf bread sometimes just to be good and just.
We only fought over the second to last piece of bread. Nobody ever wanted the last one.
