I have had a dog for about ten years now and I can tell you that it has a huge impact on my life in terms of reducing stress. I am going to be honest, there are times that my dog causes me stress. She is pretty high maintenance and has some separation issues from some trauma that happened to her before we rescued her. The benefits she brings totally outweigh the hard times though.
It doesn't matter how bad my day was at work, there is something about her standing in front of you wanting nothing more than attention and affection that just makes everything kind of melt away. I love you so unconditionally and they want nothing more in return than love back from you. It is like it is written in their DNA. They don't understand life gets rough, they don't understand annoying co-workers or overbearing bosses or any of that stuff. They just understand love and play time and wanting to be by your side and spending time with you.
There are some times my dog will be in my face and I will just want her to go away and leave me alone. Then I look at her and realize, she doesn't understand any of that. She just wants to be close to me and maybe get some belly rubs. It really gives you perspective and kind of makes all of the other stuff in the world melt away.
She is a pretty special little puppy and I can't imagine how stressed I would be without her in my life.
