Pretty simple really. A copy writer is a person who writes content designed to market/ sell products.
A content writer is a person who writes content that is designed to inform and/ or entertain.
I'm a content writer, and rarely advertise a product or service. But when I do advertise a product or service it is solely to inform people of the product rather than to encourage people to purchase it.
Copy writers are typically employed to write advertisements for products. Content writers can be employed by others but can also simply write content for their own purposes.
On Steemit, I write content because I enjoy it and I want to earn cryptocurrency without investing my own Fiat. Everyone has their own reason to write. And that's mine.
I think the definition of the two different jobs should help:
Content Writer: Is a person who writes engaging content for blogs, websites, social media, etc. This content has no one theme and could be anything that engages readers and build a following for the writer.
Copy Writer: Is a person who writes content that is of promotional nature or is meant for advertisement. These days copy writers are a small part of a much bigger advertisement machine.
Usually the content writer is a far more broader term and may include copy writers as a subset.
