I can't say for sure. I'm not much of a game freak. The only game I have had for a while is the PS 3 and I haven't finished using it yet. I love games but I've not had the money to get the Ps4 yet.
With the news however, I think ps5 would be out sometime next year.
This makes me remember something that happened some years ago. I was in high school, probably 2007. We had this friend, a classmate who used to tell lies to feel good about himself and give him rep. He told us he had a PS5 console. We didn't believe it, couldn't believe it. He kept ranting about it and said it was his uncle in London that sent it. One of us was a games freak and I there was anyone who could know, it was him. He said it was impossible. You can imagine that the Ps4 wasn't yet out but he was saying he had the PS5.
He made the mistake of saying that if we could follow him home, we'd see it. We all followed him, paid a cab to get there. Like and behold when we got there, he gave us water to drink and told us his father had locked the game in giant room while he was at school. We nearly murdered the dude dude's day. That was the last time he talked like that when we were around.
So very hilarious when I remember it!
I reckon it's easily a year away...
Consoles tend to release just before Christmas, so if I was a betting man, I'd probably say the Playstation 5 will be released Christmas 2019 in the US. I think this is very likely because they'll want to get ahead of the XBox 2 (apparently launching early 2020).
I've had a Playstation 4 for 5 years now, and I have to say that I still think it's absolutely amazing... but Sony has stated that it's at the end of it's lifecycle. Sony are expecting global sales 16 million consoles this year, so they'll be looking to inject some new enthusiasm into their market.
It's hard for me to imagine just how much better the PS5 could be than the PS4 for me specifically. I only buy a couple of games a year, and then play the absolute heck out of them. I download those games onto my physical PS4 harddrive.
From everything I've read, the PS5 will be more of a streaming game platform... which doesn't work for me personally because my internet is terrible. This means that people would 'rent' games for a limited time... a day, a week, etc.
It's an interesting model... at the moment, please pay say $100 for a game... a small percentage of those people get amazing value out of it.. while most play it for a little while and then it sits on their shelf... a streaming service would mean that heavy users pay a lot more and casual users pay a lot less... the opposite of the current pay models. I'm extremely curious to see how that will go.
I'm also pumped to see just how good the graphics can get on the PS5... after all, the PS4 is pretty amazing, and it'll have to be significant for people to buy in.
I'm no expert but I think it should be announced at least next year and come out in christmas of 2019 or during summer of 2020.
If you take a look in history at Sony's patterns and behaviours, you'll notice that when at least looking at the Ps3's history, they released 2 models aside from the original ps3 that game out in 2006. And ps4 has already reached that point... So in my opinion, we're a short road ahead from ps5 and the next generation of consoles in general terms of speaking.
So basically it's right around the corner... The corner of more than 6 months away. It's up to Microsoft or Sony to actually lead the market there, though. Both consoles have gotten extra modes and have had at least a lifespan of 4 years, but I do still consider they have some life left in them.
I'm thinking maybe we'll get Ps5 and or Xbox 1080/ TWO (?) announcements around mid 2019 but I definitely feel they're gonna be dropped onto the market at 2020, no doubt about that.
Hope that answers your question!
During the last PlayStation state of the year address the chairman of Sony said the the PS4 was nearing the end of its product cycle . This came as a surprise to many but it is 6 years old. When a chairman comes out with this statement then you can bet your granny that the PS5 is in test mode. You should see it by September next year
