Years ago you could attend Christmas Mass at midnight in my country (Venezuela), I used to do it with my family, but from time to time here not even churches are open at that time. It is a very high risk, due to the rise of crime that does not respect these places. There are testimonies of robberies in the middle of Mass, the malefactors enter and ask for the belongings of the parishioners and the priest, that's why the priests have chosen to make the masses earlier. This year the Christmas Mass in my community was at 6:00 p.m. on December 24. It was a joyful, hopeful and celebratory Mass for the birth of the Child God and the renewal of faith and love in our hearts.
I used to go to the Christmas carol service at midnight on Christmas eve. I don't go to church anymore and maybe I will do the carol service again in the future. I am not a big church goer as you have now guessed.
I'm a Reformed Christian and we don't have midnight mass, Catholics do on the other hand. We have the usual mass that starts ant 6 pm. I'm not going to church nowadays but when I did, I went to the Christmas Eve's mass at 6pm. That's the original for me, on Christmas Eve. Then we used to have a family gathering and open presents.
