My favorite shoe is the Propét Wash & Wear Slip-On. I've been wearing this same shoe for over 20 years. Every 2 years, I buy a new pair, which become my dress shoes, the old dress pair becomes my casual shoes, the old casuals become my yardwork shoes, and the old yardwork shoes go to the trash.
I have a pair of proper Stacy Adams dress shoes, but I haven't worn them in years. These are much more comfortable and suitable for pretty much all purposes.
As far as compared to the 90s? I've been wearing these since the 90s, and although it's now officially a "version 2", they're basically unchanged in over 20 years. And any shoe that can stand up to 2 years of daily wear by a guy my size…that's a sturdy shoe.
I buy shoes whenever I need a pair. Although I'm a woman and women are known to have lots of shoes, I'm not like that, don't have many, just as many as I need but those are quality shoes and wear them not just for a season or two. I still have a pair of boots I bought ten years ago.
I'm having some problems and was advised by my doctor to choose my footwear carefully, always buy leather shoes and pay attention to quality. That's why I'm spending half an hour in the shoe store before I buy something. I know this can be frustrating to some and maybe weird but it works for me and have never been forced to return anything or throw away shoes because I can't wear them.
I like comfortable shoes I can walk with. High hills are also welcome but not too high. When it comes to brands, I'm only fussy about running shoes. There are a few brands I trust, like Asics, New Balance, Salomon and Nike, the rest is gamble.
About quality I can say that these days quality is way better than it was in the 90's.
I only buy quality shoes as I have big feet. I can't just go and buy shoes and normally I travel to Europe to fetch some every couple of years.
It has been a headache for years now but it forces me to buy quality and not junk. They are not cheap but they do last. I have a pair of leather boots that are nearly 30 years old now. They are still like brand new and have got another pair now in case the company closes down.
I have many brands that I like and Sketchers is one that I have about 6 pairs of and Nike is another. My Mountain men boots are the main ones though as they are handmade and have truck tire soles.
