yeah, stupid question, but as an outsider I'm not so sure as to what "counts" as AI these days. I'll try to illustrate my confusion with some examples:
- is Photoshop's content aware fill tool AI?
- are recommendations algos AI?
- do in-game NPCs count as AI?
I think they are all under the AI umbrella but AI's goal is not to simply have smart algorithms (first bullet) or to find ways to code your way to something that looks smart (third bullet). It is more about agents that act in the world, collect data and experience and improve themselves.
Surprisingly, the second bullet fits perfectly.
These days however AI has been associated with agents that can use the same communication channels as us: understand language, spoken or written, write back or talk, and work with images (generate or explain what's in an image)
