About 3 years ago, I took a pause on my social media activities, literally stopped all my interaction with it except for the messaging apps which I used to communicate with my family. Why did I do that? It's for a simple reason that I don't find value on what I do. I feel like everything has no bearing.

About a year ago, I was introduced to Steemit by my sister since she thought I will still be interested into posting some of my photography. As she said, "it's like a social media platform where I could earn." And that's how I started knowing about "decentralization" or blockchain in general and how it works.

One of the main reason that kept me motivated even on this "bear-market" are the "optimistic" people that truly believe in this technology and benefits of it to a society who are looking for a platform where they can express their "freedom of speech".

The decentralized nature of Steemit is also one of catchy features that got me to stay up to date. Basically, I was fed up with the fact that our own data were being utilized by a central authority and make a ton of wealth from it ~ and these are happening to a centralized social media platform. This is also one of the main reasons why I stopped using them 3 years ago. My work are not being valued and are not being protected by the central authority.

Some would ask, "do our work being valued here in Steemit?" I would say, since this is a platform where each person is entitled to his/her own opinion. It will be up to a person or a specific community on which type of content will they support. Some would like to support crypto contents since they are inclined to those kinds of topics. While some would think of an artwork as something they feel passionate about and so they put their support on it.

What I'm trying to say is that, this is a vast ocean of diverse personalities who are independently functioning towards a single goal ~ the act of distribution of Steem tokens and empower each individual in achieving their personal goals in this platform.

What I mentioned is may not be obvious when I first started about a year ago. At that time there were only few good curation initiative that are scouting the platform for quality contents that doesn't focus on a specific niche, they are Curie, OCD, & ADSACTLY as the major communities. It was quite a challenge to get their attention, but if you do then expect a really good reward from them.

Nowadays, I personally think of this stage of Steemit as the start of the "golden age"!

It may not be obvious in terms of its current price in the crypto market, but it is within the platform.

Well, first of all the major communities that I mentioned are still in full operation.

Secondly, there are more decent Apps, Dapps, Interfaces, and several more communities are being developed & conceived. These are communities that are working on a specific niche or specialty for a specific group of people. At this time, when majority of the spamming activities where being prevented by the latest HF20, the "discoverability" of each individual's contents is much higher compared to what this platform have about a year ago.

To name a few of my personal favorite when it comes to Apps & Dapps:

  • Musing - a Q&A platform that rewards questions ask & answers to questions
  • Utopian - a platform that rewards contribution to open source projects
  • Fundition - a decentralized crowdfunding & collaboration platform
  • Dpoll - a decentralized poll app
  • Tasteem - a decentralized platform that rewards restaurant guide & review
  • DSound - a sound platform for audio discovery & monetization
  • Dclick - a decentralized advertisement platform
  • Steem Monsters - a trading card game on the Steem blockchain
  • Partiko - one of the best interface in Steem blockchain to earn rewards from engagement to the community
  • Magic Dice - a provably fair & transparent dice game
  • DTube - a decentralized video platform
  • Actifit - a platform that rewards your everyday physical activity
  • Steemhunt - a platform that ranks open source products on a daily basis, product hunters are being rewarded as well

I repeat there are many more Apps & communities that are mentioned above, these are just my personal suggestions. On top of that, there are many more that are being conceived and are being developed.

The bottom line is that Steemit platform is truly one that have the most active community that is filled with intelligent & creative people. Just by interacting with this amazing people is more than a good reason to stay in this platform. Not to mention the amazing development that had happened and is happening at the moment.

So, keep steemin' everyone!

Basically, every human being cannot avoid the reward theory. Because the reward system will affect the human brain that goes to psychology.

It's just that humans are not like mice or dogs in stimulus theory and response by B.F. Skinner or Ivan Pavlov. Humans have brains that can turn the response to stimulus.

Then, how does this relate to the question "what is my motivation to start Steemit and what is the main reason for maintaining it now".

So, there are several terms that must be explained there.

Steemit nomenclature is "Steemit has redefined social media by building a living, breathing, and growing social economy - a community where users are rewarded for sharing their voice. It's a new kind of attention economy".

Steemit.com is one of the many websites that are powered by the Steem blockchain and STEEM cryptocurrency. All of these websites read and write content to the block block, which stores the content is an immutable blockchain ledger, and rewards users for their contributions with digital tokens called STEEM.

Every day, the Steady blockchain mints new store and adds them to a community's "rewards pool". These tokens are awarded to users for their contributions, based on the votes that their content receives. Users who hold more stores in their account as "Steem Power" will get to where a larger portion of the rewards pool is distributed.

So, some of the terms that need to be discussed and explained are the reward system and the Users who hold more tokens in their account as "Steem Power", and what is equally important is the community system.

These three elements will influence each other. For example, I will make a post in the education category, but because my writing uses Indonesian, then I also use the Indonesian category.

The question is, who will curate my post? Or is there Users who hold more tokens (Steem Power) giving their votes to me. The answer is NO. So far, my posts have only been curated by an Indonesian curator (@levycore) because my writing is in Indonesian. The rest, I get from @goodkarma for using the eSteem application.

So, the actual reward system done by Users who hold more tokens doesn't work well.

Furthermore, the confusion of the community system. I am confused about defining community indicators and I arrived here.

So, because the system does not work well, humans turn the situation (stimulus - response) into (response - stimulus). The award became God, and hard work (stimulus) became a slave. When the response (appreciation) becomes God, then there are many ways that are wrong (illegitimate) they justify (halal). Like doing smart plagiarism and monotonous work, or building a capitalist empire for the community. When a system like this continues to run, we will find it difficult

Sorry my brother, if there are a lot of mistakes in my writing, because my English isn't too good.

Simple, to earn rewards.

One of the reasons I started using Steemit early last year was because I was told that I could be rewarded for my write ups and that was primarily why I joined.

There is one obvious motivation, which is that it is a source of income and livelihood. But money aside, there are 3 main reasons - steemit is a censorship resistant platform. I can state what i want to and there is no company policy that decides what is right for me or not. Second, there is no false advertising to brainwash me. Third, most users on steemit are early adopters of block chain tech and that is a good thing because i am interacting for the future with like minded people who get it.

Reason STARTED... intuitive nudge to get feet wet in the blockchain revolution.

Primary motivation NOW... 💵

Fuck. Seems that steered off-course somewhere.

It must be admitted that Steemit and other decentralized other social media are products of reason (technology) that are innovative both socially and economically. Because of the potential of media like Steemit that motivates me and also make me be very optimistic in responding to the presence of such great media.

By saying a decentralized platform means emphasizing about a blockchain technology. When a social media is built on the top of a blockchain technology it brings true spirit of decentralization. It empowers people to apply their resources within their rights only, with out the involvement of a third party.

If you take steemit, you are feeling free to use your resources and you are the only owner who has the authority to access your wallet & account and no one else is holding your key of access. Where as in traditional centralized social media like facebook, there is central server where your vital information is always shared with. So there you are not so sure, whether your data will be compromised tomorrow or not, in case of any unforeseen event. In a decentralized social media that can never happen.

The social media on the top of a blockchain technology is primarily getting traction and being motivated with blockchain technology. There are so many other factors which can attract a user to decentralized platform like steemit, such as transparency and immutable record, secured ecosystem etc. The community is also tokenized, that means one can earn some money if the engagement is productive and valuable to the community. This is another factor to keep someone motivated and hopeful in a platform like steemit.

I also feel motivated because I am not being compelled to see so many ads and videos by opening the steemit page like Facebook does. That's irritating for me in centralized social media like facebook. I always feel neat and clean when I open my page. That makes me quite relax while dealing with my blog page and other user interface of dApps.

Basically, it's to earn rewards. It's better to post and earn something than to post and earn nothing.
