I opinions both ways about them, but I don't really think they are going to have that much of an impact.
For example, I have heard a lot of people saying now that it is not longer called flagging there will be a tendency of people using it for the wrong reasons. There might be people downvoting content that they don't like instead of just moving along with their lives. I can see how this could happen. I don't think it is going to usher in the end of Steemit though like some people seem to be indicating.
I personally have never used the flag button. Part of the reason is just the fact that I don't have that big of an account, so I can't afford to get into a flag war with an account that is bigger than me. Mostly if I see something that I don't agree with on the blockchain, I just keep moving and I don't let it bug me.
The idea that the flag button was meant to dispute rewards that had been given out on a post is a really great point that has been brought up though. I think when you change the name to downvote, you are putting the focus on more on the post itself and whether you personally like it or not. This makes it less about what the rewards the post is getting and I think that is wrong. I think that takes away from the heart of what the flag button was intentionally created for.
It is still something that I am probably never going to utilize, though I have had it used on me at least once now. In the past I had never been flagged. It will be interesting to see if the number of downvotes I start getting on my posts increases. I wonder if they have a way of tracking that. Total flags on the system vs. total downvotes on the system. If the number rises significantly, they may have to go back and take a longer look at the changes they have made.
It was really just supposed to be a change in name alone as far as I know.
One it will be abused the way they abuse the flag button.
I don't think it's cool for someone to make another person loose reward because they don't like their content. It's ok for them to indicate via comment not down vote.
people will definitely misuse it.
I am actually against downvotes. If we claim that Steemit is an alternative to censorship media, then we should not allow downvotes because it is censorship repackaged. We should be able to accommodate diverse views and opinions.
Oh wow when I saw it I was taken back a bit but I think it's for the best. I believe that people should be able to express how they feel about a particular post, be it good or bad and the downvote button makes it possible.
My only fear is that it makes it easier for people to bully others on steemit. If for example I angered the wrong person on steemit and the person has a lot of SP, steemit literally just made it possible for the person to downvote my work to their hearts content without any stress whatsoever.
Whatever the case, I believe the folks at steemit Inc thought about it long and hard before they decided to put the button and all I can do is trust in their wisdom, I mean if not for them none of us would be here so I guess they have their reasons.
I hope this helps.
Honestly I think adding the downvote button will become the new flag wars. We’ve already seen a lot of issues with flagging and the abuse of it. I feel this just gave more ammunition for those wanting to start a battle.
I really hope that we don’t start seeing downvote wars but let’s be real people always find a way to abuse privileges. I feel if you don’t approve or like someone’s post, moving along without upvoting is still expressing your opinion on it, no need to downvote it. IMO
the addition of downvote buttons in steemit, in my opinion is very good. because someone does not have the opportunity to earn income from making a wrong post. You certainly know that a lot of users who have great power make wrong posts. sometimes they only post images without words. in my opinion it's the wrong post. and if the downvote button is not available, then someone will be free to make the wrong post.
I didn't like the flag button on steemit and so I also don't like the down vote button
A person may intentionally flag someone base on personal beefs or disagreements so it's a no to me
yes there are possibilities that people can misuse downvote button but chances of misuse is very less because on steem platform everybody knows it requires lots of time and effort to create good content therefore people respect effort of other, downvote feature was already present in the form of flag.
if a post get 100 upvote and 10 downvote then those 10 downvote intentionally did by certain people, if a post get 90 downvote and 10 upvote then that content is flag. downvote button is good because every steem user work as moderator to keep steem platform spam free.
