Seems like a first little step to avoid multi-accounting/bots.
Nevertheless, an info would be good instead of just finding the overlay "register email" without any further information.
I dislike email use in crypto. they could your other security features that as free and open source such as captcha or the style that X uses. Now Musing looks more like traditional platform. The best security is is using only the wallet to register. The email is very risky for crypto and also it is 60 years old technology. It is data collection in first place. Never use your main email for anything related to crypto.
This is one of those things that we will have to just test out going forward. I know it's generally disliked, but it also enables us to notify users when someone has replied to them, when they've received an airdrop, tokens that are trending, etc.
If you think about how much value that can add to the platform in terms of engaging users, it could really make a big difference in the growth of the community coins on the platform, which is ultimately a benefit to everyone.
You raise a valid point; however, it should be presented as optional, with a thorough explanation of the potential risks. I advocate for data protection, especially as traditional companies and individuals from Web2 transition into the crypto space. Before 2020, most projects in the crypto industry did not use email. A notable cryptographic expert from the Ethereum Foundation has highlighted the risks of associating email with crypto addresses, which significantly increases user vulnerability. Adding complexity increases the risk of attacks, hacks, and other security threats, as evidenced by incidents like the one with CoinGecko.
To be clear, I am not suggesting that the project itself exposes users to risk. Often, projects use plugins or third-party add-ons that might unknowingly expose users in the future.
I support providing users with choices. If users prefer to use email, that should be an option. For instance, multiple security combinations can be implemented: users signing up with email can undergo email verification plus CAPTCHA, while others might use CAPTCHA alone or wallet sign-in with CAPTCHA. Offering various options can attract more users.
I do not mention 2FA because it is not a robust security measure. My intent is to emphasize the importance of informed choice and robust security measures. For example, if a person creates an account and verifies it with their primary email, the data for the email and related 0x address will be collected by the third party, storing personal information and financial data. In the event of a data leak, hack, or sale of the third party's data, this information could fall into the wrong hands. Bad actors could then track users, and if they identify high-value crypto holdings and know personal details like home or office locations, they could potentially carry out physical attacks in addition to digital hacks. Simplicity is the best security. Maybe will be good if you host spaces through the Musing x account and have discussion about this mater but also many others. I like that you and Musing team are open and communicate with the users on the platform.
A native app would suit that too, but is of course a longer way to go than "just email".
True, I don't like having to register via email either.
